Fantasy settings have three kind of ‘racial layouts.’
1. Humans, with weird variants like mutants, undead or random immortals.
2. Humans in a world where the other entities are spiritual - gods, angels, demons, fae, and so on- or inhuman monsters.
3. Humans and multiple humanoid but still mundane and fleshy races, plus all the supernaturals of 2.
Dark Souls jumping between 2 and 3 and back again (boardering on category 1 at times) over the series is one of the hardest bits of the lore to deal with.
